Bravery

“Why can’t we do that?”

Wow. Real simply question. Deep thought required. Real simply answer. Do it.

What struck me was the bravery required on the young ladies part to stand out and ask why.

Have you been brave today?

Grinning

Every student, every one of them were grinning today. Absolutely a magical day of learning. Could not have asked for a better outcome.

What did we do? Ask for assistance and expect all our expectations to be exceeded.

Our need was great in two areas (an understatement to get the point across) and we were short on time in both.

Enter a superhero from Texas State Technical College Waco to handle the needs of my seniors and the needs of our SkillsUSA teams. She had everyone riveted with sage advice and practical examples. Her delicacy in handling hearts drew commitment from the recipient. We saw fire in her eyes as she sternly drove non-negotiable points home.

Expectations were exceeded when students asked questions and sought advice on other issues. The buzz with my students has not subsided. We will use our superhero’s call to action as a springboard to reach new heights.

Cherrie McBratney is the superhero who shared her gift with us today. We are still grinning. Thanks.

Linchpin goes to school

Seth Godin made it easy to lead when he allowed us to make a difference through the Acumen Foundation (thanks Seth). His gift, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? is making a difference in my classroom.

What has us excited?

Emotional Labor and Making Maps validates the grand side adventures we take to understand the WHY in many of the things we do.

No cog workers trained here. Our subject matter could be mundane except we understand it as the medium in which we have to practice our art. As Seth states; My students’ “art is a personal gift that changes the recipient.”

Students that are indispensable because of their hearts of service. We are in good hands with these students because Linchpin goes to school.

Catch a dream

What comes to mind when you hear ‘dream’? Do you think of your passion? Does it cause you to become giddy with excitement? Can you feel the anticipation of an adventure?

If these ideas seem foreign to you, you can awaken your dreams. Remember your child’s play when you were saving the world? Somewhere along the way we were convinced to leave the dreaming behind. Foolish, we were told. Grow up.

Read these words from Steven Spielberg and tell me who is foolish.

“I dream for a living.” Steven Spielberg

Catch a dream. Change the world today.

Going for it

Ready to take flight?

We were looking at the picture of Orville and Wilbur Wright’s first flight at Kitty Hawk in class recently. The discussion was lively as we thrilled in the adventure of something that had never been done. How about the audacity of Orville piloting without a license?

The consensus was to go for it.

Never tell yourself no

Ever go to bed at night wondering what if?

What if I would have asked?
What if I opened that door?
What if I took one more step?
What if I submitted that grant application/scholarship/etc?
What if I reached out in love?

Sure you may get a no. The door may not open. Another step may not lead to victory. So what if you are not selected.

You will be told no. Move on and grow. The important thing is to never tell yourself no.

Action and Words

Realized my actions do not match my words . How did this happen?

Habits are either good or bad. Getting up early is a good habit we can form. Complaining is a bad habit we can also form. Little steps form these habits, sometimes without much thought.

Started today to end my (subtle) complaining so my actions match my words.

Hold on

Our journey is full of great sights and fabulous adventures to share in. Fun awaits each day for us to enjoy. When we are too busy/tired/grumpy/hungry/sick or not up to it the fun goes untapped and the day can wear on us. Aren’t you glad for the night? Recharge to go it again in your journey.

Thanks for lending a helping hand to others in their journey so we too can enjoy the adventure. That loving assistance helps us hold on.

Writing history

“History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.” Winston Churchill

We are writing history each day. Yesterday has already been written. Tomorrow will always be tomorrow.

Today holds the world for each of us. How will you write the story?

The push is worth it

As the days pass we can grow tired and weaken in our resolve. We may not want to take the action this day but really this is the only day to take the action. Tomorrow arrives as another day but we can never reclaim the missed time/action.

You were made for this day. We have what it takes to push through for this day.

The push is worth it.

Stillness

Rushed. Uptight. Always on. These sound all too familiar in our days.

We are instructed to “Be still and know that I am God” in Psalm 46:10. When we bring this calm to our minds we reap the benefits.

Want answers? Need peace? Desire direction? Slow down (in your mind if no where else) and see what flows.

Don’t take my word for it. Try it now and enjoy the freedom and then share it with others.

You may be the only one that shares this truth and sets a person free.

Your next step means so much

Know where you want to go? Excellent place to start and make a difference in numerous ways. Got your eyes set on the destination and your heart set to thrive.

The next step is all you need to do. We can falter when contemplating all the steps required to get us there. Realize your (first) next step leads you to victory. We can take the next step. Then the next step. When do we stop? We define our next game changing destination and take the next step towards it. We always take that next step.

Your next step means so much to so many.

Curiositá and Continuous Learning

The wonder of a child is refreshing and gives us a pattern to which we can return. The sad part is having lost the wonder, the curiosity. Pablo Picasso had it right when he said; “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

When did your artist leave? Mine departed at a very early age but is being welcomed back through reading. Artist is a metaphor for the ‘wonder of a child’ kind-of-life with limitless possibilities. You are free to claim your ‘wonder of a child’ life.

I am gleaning nuggets in How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci by Michael J. Gleb. Here is one great nugget from Michael that we can cash in for profit; “You can increase your problem-solving skills, at work and at home, by honing your questioning-asking ability.” Think about questions from a child. Tap into that wonder, see with fresh eyes, ask why, ask why not.

“Just as iron rusts from disuse, and stagnant water putrefies, or when cold turns to ice, so our intellect wastes unless it is kept in use.” Leonardo da Vinci

Investing

You are spending your time/money where you choose. We all make choices by deliberate decision or by not deciding. Take a look at what Charlie “Tremendous” Jones had to say concerning decisions; “Make a decision and then make it right; you have your whole life to do it in.” Really love that. Dwell on that wisdom and it can set you free.

Jim Rohn helps us with a clear message when he states: “It doesn’t matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make progress without making decisions.”

We were blessed to have a Peter F. Drucker. Nibble on this truth he imparted to you; “In every success story, you find someone who has made a courageous decision.” Cherish your success stories and be sure to share them (people need to hear).

Decide to love.
Decide to give.
Decide to read.
Decide to decide.
